Lamech Bogonko Francis

Education

Lamech Bogonko is an experienced Clinician and part time lecturer with 8 years experience as a physiotherapist. He has a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Physiotherapy and Masters in Sports Physiotherapy from the University of the Western Cape, South Africa and a varsity experience in managing, rehabilitating musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries. Currently he is the team physiotherapist for the Kenya Rugby 7s Men’s National Team, Part time Lecturer and Full time Clinician.

He is also a PhD Candidate with passion in sports injury surveillance and prevention research

He has culminated his passion for orthopedic, Sports rehabilitation and sports physical therapy by opening his own private physical therapy practice in 2011 (East Africa Physiotherapy, Sports Injury Clinic, Exercise and Sports Medicine center)

Lamech’s clinical experience covers a broad spectrum including outpatient orthopedic clinics, acute care hospitals, as well as sub-acute skilled pitch side physiotherapy for sports teams.

Lamech makes it a priority to keep up to date with the latest trends in the dynamic field of physical therapy and sports rehabilitation through advanced continuing education (CEU) courses.

THE IMPORTANCE OF THE SKINFOLD MEASUREMENT TEST

After assessing the Kenya XVs Rugby team for body compositions and injury profile, we now have a deeper look on the importance of conducting skinfold test. First of all skinfold measurement test is one common method of determining athlete's individual body composition and body fat percentage.  This test estimates the percentage of body fat by measuring skinfold thickness at specific locations on the body. The thickness of these folds is a measure of the fat under the skin, also called subcutaneous adipose tissue. Skinfold thickness results rely on formulas that convert these numbers into an estimate of a person's percentage of body fat according to a person's age and gender. Skinfold measurements are generally taken at specific sites on the right side of the body.
